Pismo State Beach supports a range of recreational and educational activities, and is home to the Pismo clam and to wintering colonies of monarch butterflies. People enjoy hiking, swimming, fishing, bird watching and clamming when they spend time at the beach. There is an on-site visitor center, which often holds educational program and guided tours of the area.

At Spyglass Park, people can access 1.5 mi (2.4 km) of sanded beach area, as well as 4 acres of green space that offers amazing views of the ocean and Pismo Beach. On the grassy area is a children's playground, picnic tables, barbeque sites and many benches.
